Understanding Leukemia

Cancer of the blood is called Leukemia. Types of leukemia are named after the specific blood cell that becomes cancerous. There are 4 main types of leukemia in adults:

There are other, less common types of leukemia but they are generally subcategories of one of the four main categories. According to the National Cancer Institute, more than 40,800 adults and 4,500 Americans are diagnosed with this disease each year.
